DESCRIPTION: EPW - Samuel Toulmin, London, verge fusee, 45mm, 18K gold or greater (tested) OF original pair cases bearing London hallmarks for 1764, "R.P" marking in cameo for casemaker Richard Palmer I, outer containing partial casepaper for a Cambridgeport, Mass. watchmaker, white enamel dial, KWKS, verge escapement, gilt mvt with pierced and foliate scrolled balance cock, s#2596. Comes with a 6.5 inch gold-filled chain. Gross weight of assembled watch 64.6 dwt (100.4 g).
CONDITION: Mvt: NR, chain is detached from fusee and wrapped around barrel with end not visible to determine whether hook is present, balance will tick with reverse pressure held to fusee, overhaul needed, excellent-plus cosmetic mvt condition overall, good gilt tone, few fine scratches; dial with scattered fine scratches, scrape around much of perimeter which takes out portions of some of the 5-minute numerals; fine hands, oxide to tip of minute; outer case shows medium wear, dent at upper-right perimeter of rear, some dings and mild lesser dents scattered elsewhere, upper and lower portions closing with some gap, some dark discoloration to exterior around seat of latch spring, button latch good; inner case shows light wear, some scattered dents and dings, circumferential indentation around perimeter; bow pivots freely; domed glass bull's-eye crystal with few fine scratches.
